Lilongwe Malawi Things To Do

Readers will know that I visited WTM Africa and INDABA this year, but some readers may not realize that Malawi is indeed high on my Africa wish list and has never been before. I would like to share with you some things that I found particularly useful during my time on my new continent, which help others - travel planning! I first visited Malawa in 2009 and fell in love with this friendly and beautiful place when I worked there as a tour guide in 2012 and backpacking there at the end of 2017.

You can visit Lake Malawi as long as the water temperature is favorable, the water is clear and calm and you can go on a safari in South Luangwa (morning beach) or in the afternoon. You can add it to almost any of your Malawa - Zambia itineraries and even manage to pack a few days backpacking or even just spend a few days on the beach. I suggest you leave early to really optimize your R & R time (check out this route here for inspiration).

I recommend the rugged route Zambia - Malawi as a starting point for your trip, but you can also play around with it by spending a few days with your backpack or even a day or two on the beach. The ideal route or retreat in the wilderness of northern Malawi is if you are planning a conservation-oriented Malawa trip.

Located near the border with Zambia, it is one of the best places to spot a bird - a safari in Malawi. If you plan a safari to Malawa, you can leave the attraction and stay for a day in Liwonde National Park.

This is not a wildlife park in Malawi, but you can still see many animals and get a feel for Africa's pristine savannah landscape. Given that the crocodiles and hippos in Lake Malawi are a real problem, you should be aware of this.
